The Backbencher is a libertarian leaning politics website. Started in September 2012, the site has dedicated its time and efforts to cover British politics, technological innovations and progress.
The site originated as a student venture; an opportunity for young writers to gain an experience of what journalism was all about, and ultimately, to better understand how they could become a success in a tough industry. But moreover, the Backbencher was coined to promote unorthodox politics: to highlight the issues facing Britain, promote the libertarian cause, and maybe change some minds and opinions along the way.
I believe that blogs like this are evidently the future of journalism. It is a fairly cliche observation to make, however when you look at the success of Guido Fawkes, ConHome and Left Foot Forward. It is very hard to ignore the fact that these blogs are what the industry professionals turn to. The Backbencher has got followers that range from the likes of Fraser Nelson, Ian Dale and Suzanne Evans. This means that not only is my work being published on a blogging site but it has the potential of being read by some of the biggest political commentators in the industry.
