Journalism and Writing
Freelance Writing:
Writing for brand new online publications is always something that I am looking to do. Whether it's writing for a lifestyle magazine or a new political blog my aim is to make sure that whoever I work alongside I help with the creative aspect, on top of providing content.
Latest 7 - My first journalism job was to be a reviewer for a local magazine in Brighton. It would involve me attending theatrical productions, comedy gigs and music events in exchange for a 100 word review of the performance. It may not seem like the most taxing of roles, however it helped me to understand what the editor was looking for in terms of not just quality but also punctuality but furthermore, it helped me when it came to looking at performances with more of a critical eye.
Tremr - In 2017, I was appointed as a political and current affairs intern at Tremr. The position involved me pitching article ideas i.e. political stories such as opinion pieces on the latest breaking news, stories like 'The Budget', 'Brexit' on top of some more trivial topics such as TV reviews e.g. 'Top Gear'. My aim was to write up content that A) No-one had yet posted/discussed about on the site and B) I was making sure that my writing ability matched that of the more experienced writers who had been employed. After I had finished the programme I decided that I wanted to be the first on the blogging site to publish a selection satirical pieces. Which basically meant copying the convention of The Daily Mash and then coming up with my own 'spoof' news reports. The two pieces I wrote were received with warm reception and ended up becoming the #1 trending on the site as well as being selected as a Staff Pick. It may not be up to the same standard as other professional satirical websites but nevertheless people enjoyed it and they proved to be more popular than the factual pieces on the site.
Below are examples of what I'm currently working on. I'm always open to feedback and if anything I have written has decided to spark a debate inside you then I am more than happy to talk about:
