'Politicocks' is a weekly political podcast set up and run by myself and a university colleague. We aim to produce content which differs from the conventional realm of LBC and BBC. We strive to stand out from the crowd, and I believe that by offering a mixture of hard-hitting content, as well as some satirical and jovial humour, we can create something new on the podcasting market. The idea is we want to get rid of the jargon and lexical complications that politics provides and instead make subjects like Brexit, PMQ's and anything else going on in the papers appeal to people who wouldn't usually consider themselves political anoraks or followers of the news.
Guests: So far the podcast has been lucky enough to secure some big names in the world of political punditry. These include the likes of Matt Chorley, Guido Fawkes, Piers Morgan, Matthew Wright, Jon Henley and Iain Dale. We want to make sure that our guests are as eclectic as our content so we strive to approach those on the far left as well as the far right. The reason why I'm determind to do so is because currently my university, City University of London, is sitting on a 'Red' free speech ranking because of policies on transgender pronouns, events with speakers and 'lad culture'. As a passionate advocate of free speech, I hope to change this by organising an event where I can bring 'Politicocks TV' as well as City students together in order to voice their opinions and not be feared of regulation by the SU. It is also to prove that City is worthy of the title as the 'Oxbridge of journalism'. This will be highly beneficial for the podcast as it also allows us to try new and exciting formats such as experimenting with Facebook live on top of providing visual content as opposed to just audio.
We record the podcast every Wednesday, late afternoon, just after PMQ's. We upload it onto Soundcloud as well as iTunes, which has been brilliant especially when it comes to looking at how each episode is doing and how we can improve our content. Social media presence is also something that we care about, and we see as being a key component in the potential success of our podcast. We have both a Twitter, @thepoliticocksuk, and Facebook page, @PoliticocksUK. The point is to be as engaging as possible so we will regularly set up polls and votes to interact with the audience that way we can strive to keep a loyal following.
